Here's how I ended up with a webpage:
In 2010 I was working as a financial data analyst at a bank. One day I cried, “No more financial data-ing for me!” and I quit grown-upping and packed up my things and moved to Vermont for two years to study cartooning at The Center for Cartoon Studies.
After I graduated, I went back to working full-time and bombarded The New Yorker with my cartoons. I traveled to New York City every few weeks and handed my cartoons to the cartoon editor who was known to make people cry. The best part was that I got to meet all these old dudes whose cartoons I’ve been reading my whole life. And also some young cartoonist dudes. It was a lot of dudes.
After two years of submitting cartoons to the magazine, I got a cartoon published, which was a dream come true. Since that first cartoon, I’ve had a handful more published. Someday I hope to have two handfuls published.
In 2015, I was getting ready to sell my cartoons at my first comics book expo and I was worried that I wouldn't have enough comics to sell. So instead of making more comics (which takes a lot of time), I made a sheep magnet. And then I made another sheep magnet and another and another...and then things got out of control. Horse magnets! Bird tote bags! Dioramas! Stickers! So now I had this side business where I make crafts, with cartoons on the side of that side.
Last year I got laid off, so here I go, throwing caution to the wind and trying to do cartoons and crafts for a living. I expect to make almost nothing, and so far, I am making much less than nothing! So I am exceeding my expectations.
I live in Boston with my boyfriend, and two cats.
